A bonus non-BBC session, recorded in Paris by an unknown American interviewer for Armed Forces Network. First Paul discusses their origins, success and haircuts; George talks about the Liverpool Sound; Ringo briefly synopsizes his career; and John talks about imitators. Then Paul discusses the Olympia shows, writing "I Want To Hold Your Hand", themes in their songs and their upcoming U.S. trip and first feature film; George talks about the lack of French girls and landing the Sullivan show; John discusses "yeah yeah yeah" and they all rate the French girls.
The first time I heard this interview was during "Radio Veronica's Beatles Dag" on 29 February 1972 (I stayed home from school just to listen to this unique radio broadcast by Holland's no. 1 pirate radio station), as a matter of fact I taped the whole day. The sound quality of the tapes was/is poor though. A Radio Veronica DJ Mr. Tom Mulder managed to get an excellent sounding copy of the interview on 27 August 1976. He got this dub from the interviewer Harold B. Kelley himself. Through a friend who had "radio connections" I obtained a copy of this tape and also a copy of the letter with "a little background on the interview" by Harold B. Kelley to Tom Mulder.
I've traded the interview several times so maybe that's how it made it's way onto Attack Of The Filler Beebs, episode one...
