My comments
In the 60s and 70s there was a lot of
talking going on about these movies. Dick Cavett showed a small part of Yoko's
film 'Fly' during his TV interview with John & Yoko in 1971 and I remember I was very curious how the film would develop. Would
the woman eventually be shown in full? Naked? (Yes, she would!... nothing erotic
here though, as far as I'm concerned.) In the Dutch fanclub magazine these weird
movies were discussed and someone said that 'Erection' showed John's private
parts from hanging to standing up; not really, it's just the construction of a
building speeded up to 20 minutes. 'Bottoms' is just that: 80 minutes of
bottoms, each different bottom lasting 20 seconds and 'Up Your Legs Forever' is
70 minutes of pairs of legs owned by many people.
I'm very happy to have been able to
actually see the Ono/Lennon films now with my own eyes although I'll have to
admit I fast-forwarded quite some times. Historic (and artistic?) value.
